Summer Instructor/Counselor - July 2019 - August 2019

Job Description:
- Responsible for coordinating, facilitating and submitting a class syllabus, class objectives and maintaining student records (attendance, disciplinary actions, evaluations, tests, quizzes, and exams) in the following disciplines:
• ACT/SAT
• English, Literature, Creative Writing/Grammar
• Mathematics Algebra I through IV, Geometry and Pre-Calculus
• Science Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with labs
• Foreign Language Spanish, French or Arabic
• Counseling (Group classes in social development, career assessment & interest, College preparation, etc.).
- Must attend required weekly meetings with the program director and coordinator.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A college degree and certification in the area of instruction or counseling.
- Teaching and/or counseling experience (high school and college.)
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching/counseling the program's target population (9-12th grades).
- Ability to plan and coordinate activities and to conduct classes in an interesting, fun, and productive learning environment.
- Regular, consistent attendance is mandatory.
- Excellent communication, written, and verbal skills required.

Summer Residential Advisor - July 2019 - August 2019

*This is a temporary position. Residential advisors will work during the five-week Summer Instructional/Residential Program.*

Job Description:
- Supervision of 9th-12th-grade students during the five-week Summer Instructional/Residential Program.
- Assist with the daily implementation of the student participation schedule, including move-in/move-out procedures.
- Supervise, monitor and evaluation of 8 12 male/female high school residents in a co-ed residence hall.
- Mandatory attendance of the Summer College Tour at the end of the program.
- This is a live-in position in a dormitory unit on Wayne State's campus.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of junior college year.
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Childhood Education or Psychology preferred but will accept candidates with degrees in other majors.
- Candidate must possess excellent supervisory, communication, tutorial, and leadership skills and must have experience with record-keeping, time-management, and organization.
- Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with a high school population and residence living.
- Must be time-oriented, able to adhere to a strict schedule, and able to follow all rules and regulations.
- Creativity is a must.
- Candidates must be energetic, friendly, sociable, enthusiastic, and fully committed to the five-week program.

Job Description:
- Supervise, monitor, and evaluate 90-100 high school students and 10 residential advisors during the five-week Summer Instructional/Residential Program.
- Candidate must have experience handling confidential/sensitive information.
- Develop a roster to monitor students leaving and returning to campus, including their daily on-campus activities.
- Create, develop, plan, and implement required programs (educational & social).
- Develop personal relationships and encourage students/residents.
- Participate in all programs, including weekly staff meetings.
- Supervise completion of required paperwork.
- Coordinate and supervise move-in/move-out procedures.
- Mandatory attendance of the Summer College Tour at the end of the program.
