What is the purpose of the McNair Scholars program?
The purpose of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to provide low-income and first-generation undergraduate students with effective preparation for doctoral study, and can also include undergraduates who are underrepresented in graduate education as stipulated by the U.S. Department of Education.
When are applications due?
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and priority consideration will be given to low-income and first-generation college students. Applicants will receive notification if they have been selected for an in person interview.
How many letters of recommendation are required?
If you are a sophomore, please submit one recommendation form. If you are a junior, please submit two recommendations forms, one of which must be from a teaching faculty member.
Can my recommender write a letter instead of filling out the form?
Yes.
Who can be in the program?
The Wayne State McNair Scholars Program serves full-time Wayne State undergraduates who are pursuing their first bachelor's degree and are low-income and first-generation college students, and can also include students who are underrepresented in graduate education as stipulated by the U.S. Department of Education.
