Image of Dr. Viveka Vaughn

 

Viveka Vaughn, PhD is currently an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Departments of Education and Mathematics at Wayne State University. A Detroit native and first-generation college student, Dr. Vaughn's research publications involve equity issues in mathematics. Specifically, she looks at ways to increase the number of Black girls and women in mathematics. She also examines intervention programs and how they increase exposure and engagement in math and other STEM areas for women and minorities. Previous to working at Wayne State University, Dr. Vaughn taught in the mathematics department at Spelman College for 11 years. Dr. Vaughn received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Mathematics from Wayne State University and her doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from Columbia University. Dr. Vaughn is a mom to one son and a bonus mom to three children. In her spare time, she enjoys improv, roller skating, and solving math puzzles and riddles with her husband.
