Glossary of Terms

Post Secondary
A post-secondary school in America, is anything beyond high school. Some examples are colleges, universities, vocational schools, and technology schools.

Accreditation
To certify (a school, college, or the like) as meeting all formal official requirements of  academic excellence, curriculum, facilities, etc.

FAFSA
Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Matriculate
To enroll in a college or university as a candidate for a degree.

First Generation

The first person in a family that receives a 4 year degree from a university.

Low Income
Low income is when your average income falls below the average in your area.

Verification

The process of research, examination, etc., required to prove that something is true.

Financial Education
The ability to understand the language of finance. It would also allow you to make informed decisions regarding the management of your money.

Preparatory School
A secondary school preparing students for college.

Bachelor’s Degree
An academic degree conferred by a college or university upon those who complete the undergraduate curriculum.

Master’s Degree
An academic degree conferred by a college or university upon those who complete at least one year of prescribed study beyond the bachelor's degree.

Satellite Study Center
A facility where university classes are held that are not on the main campus.
