"Navigating Graduate Education
&
Finding Your Way"
Michael Heppler, Oklahoma State University 
This workshop will provide a wealth of information on the process of preparing for graduate school. The presentations will include: preparation tactics while still in your undergraduate program, graduate admissions criteria, developing a personal statement, hot to obtain letters of recommendation, graduate financial opportunities, professionalism and advantages of applying to Graduate School as a McNair Scholar. This seminar will assist you in making the graduate school process a constructive and successful experience.

"Your Mentor is Not Your Mama"
Betty Brown-Chapell, Eastern Michigan University

Building upon her experience as a first-generation undergraduate at the University of Michigan and subsequent completion of her doctoral degree at the University of Chicago, the presenter will outline lessons that she has learned about mentoring.  Dr. Brown-Chappell will also reflect upon her experience as a faculty mentor and McNair Director for hundreds of students at Eastern Michigan University.
