Appropriators Restore 95% of TRIO Cuts
Dear TRIO Colleagues,
On Monday night, Appropriations Chairs, Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and Representative Harold Rogers (R-KY), unveiled the omnibus appropriations bill to fund the federal government for the remainder of FY 2014. This bill included $838 million in TRIO funding, which will be spread across Program Year 2014-2015. Although this figure is less than the amount approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee last summer, it is $42 million more than current funding levels and represents a restoration of 95% of the sequester cut.
If the bill is passed by both the House and Senate, TRIO grants will have 95% of the cut it experienced in 2013-14 restored in 2014-15. Due to the strength of your advocacy, this restoration to TRIO was among the highest levels included in the bill.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the bill on Wednesday, followed by a vote in the Senate. Please contact Kimberly Jones at (firstname.lastname@example.org) or (202) 347-7430 with any questions or concerns.
