Student Learning & Engagement

First Semester
During the first semester MI GEAR UP Program Counselors conduct a series of in-school presentations/workshops to the MI GEAR UP members in grades 9th in 9 high schools.  This is a cohort group of students where many have been in the program since the seventh grade.  The focus of the presentations/workshops is grade-level appropriate college preparatory information. Each activity emphasizes the importance of post-secondary education.

Second Semester                                                                                                                                                                  In the second semester MI GEAR UP Program Counselors collaborate with various partners (MICUP/Mission Possible, 4S, Future Faculty Fellowship, Morris Hood and Employment and Training Designs, Incorporated) to provide students with campus-based activities and or field trips to educate and expose MI GEAR UP students on post-secondary education, career choices and job opportunities.

Summer Activities                                                                                                                                                               During the summer students are given the option to participate in the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy and summer opportunities. Students must complete an application and participate in an selection and or interview process in order to be considered for participation.
